The Taylor House
A Home Away From Home
As hospitals take on the role of regional treatment centers, families often find they must travel long distances to seek the necessary medical attention for a loved one.
Or, in a community like Flagstaff, which is a tourism destination and has two major highways converging, visitors often find themselves in need of emergency medical care.
In such situations, families often are forced to split up, commute long distances, run up huge hotel bills, or make do by sleeping in waiting rooms or in their vehicles.
The Taylor House was built to provide a 'home away from home' for family members at an affordable rate and to serve as a respite from the anxieties and discomforts of illness with an emphasis on learning and hope.
The Taylor House has served more than 5,000 families since opening its doors in 2001. Families from all 50 states and nearly 30 countries have depended on the hospitality of The Taylor House when their loved ones were patients at FMC.
The Taylor House includes:
- 19 private rooms
- Large kitchen area able to serve several families at a time
- On-site manager's apartment
- Laundry room
- Private courtyard
- Family great room with fireplace
All of our guests can access educational information at the FMC Medical Library. Computers are available for guests to check their e-mail.
Support Groups
- The Taylor House has partnered with American Cancer Society for a monthly "Look Good Feel Better" program offered to cancer patients.
- A support group is available for families of multiple traumas on Wednesday evenings.
- A weekly support group is provided every other month for cancer patients.
In Memory
The community area is named in memory of 19-year-old Jaime Golightly, who was training to be a healthcare professional when her life was tragically cut short.
Supporters
Dedicated in the Navajo Blessing Way and named in memory of long-time resident Bill Taylor, The Taylor House was developed by Flagstaff Medical Center in partnership with the Taylor family, the Golightly family and the generous support of the Flagstaff community.
The Taylor House is testimony to the caring spirit of the entire Northern Arizona community. Today, The Taylor House continues to rely on support from grateful families and the community.
